Shark tank star Barbara Corcoran she is happy to sleep in a separate room from her husband, Bill Higgins – especially because it keeps their most intimate moments from becoming too long.
“I have to invite him into my room and it's like his birthday. 'How old are you, Bill? Come in!'” Corcoran, 75, joked in a preview for the upcoming episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Showin order People. “(Does) it make sex better? No, but he thinks it does.”
When the host Jamie Kern Five asked if Higgins finds sex more pleasant with his arrangement because it's a “safe thing”, Corocoran answered with a laugh: “Yes! And I like it because it's a short thing. I'm not sure, but short.”
“My idea of a special night with my husband is a good game of Scrabble,” she continued. “He'll often say S or S, and I'll say 'Scrabble' because the first S means sex, and I'll say, 'No, Scrabble,' and I like to beat him at Scrabble, and he likes to beat me at Scrabble, and he's a great night “.
Corcoran noted that there are many other reasons for her to maintain a separate space from her husband for almost four decades, noting that her career plays into her desire for “me time.”
“I think there is something to be said about your own private space. I lead a very busy life. I have a big family that I am always fun. I have very sincere, active friends and so what I need more than anything else it's a truce, and my husband is not relaxing,” she explained. “He has ideas that don't make sense. And for me to come up with the energy at the end of the day to listen to him and to announce and to contribute to the conversation? I run a little short.”
She added, “I'd better go to my room, and I'll have an hour to myself.”
Corcoran said Higgins is well-versed in her family's rules, sharing that he will follow her if she enters the “living room” but “he doesn't dare” join her in her bedroom.
“I have to invite him into my room and I like it that way,” he said. “He never invited me back because he knows I'll never go into his room, but I'll invite him into mine.”
This isn't the first time Corcoran has opened up prefer separate sleeping arrangements in marriage. During the apparition Today with Hoda & Jenna in March, he noted another reason he opts for his own night space.
“It's such a mess,” Corcoran joked of Higgins “He puts piles of things everywhere and I'm very clean so I couldn't sleep well at night. Now, I sleep like a baby.”
Corcoran and Higgins tied the knot on Valentine's Day in 1988. The couple share son Tom, who they welcomed in 1994, and daughter Kate, who they later adopted.
Earlier this year, Corcoran shared her best marriage advice that doesn't involve the bedroom.
“You really have to take your partner as they are and not hope through marriage that they will change,” the TV personality said. Good afternoon! in February. “Because they never do. You should be happy! What you see is what you get.”
