Gautam Adani accused of bribery US: Indian bloc protests in parliament, calls for JPC

US accusation Gautam Adani: Leaders of several Indian bloc parties protested Wednesday over US allegations against industrial tycoons and called for a joint parliamentary investigation. Both sides said the JPC was necessary for various charges against the company in various scams.

This comes after US prosecutors accused Adani and his associates of bribing Indian officials in exchange for favorable conditions for its solar project. U.S. prosecutors have named several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Jammu and Kashmir, in a bribe of Rs 2,200 crore, with the contract signed between the company and the state between July 2021 and February. 2022.

While opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was not present at Wednesday's protest, other AAP, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), DMK and leftist MPs attended. They held up slogans to satisfy their demands while holding banners reading 'Modi-Adani is one'. TMC did not take part in the protest.

In addition to JPC, Gandhi also sought the immediate arrest of Gautam Adani.

The secretariat of the National Assembly issued a directive on Tuesday – MPs protested in the same place on Tuesday – urging lawmakers not to demonstrate in front of parliament, saying such obstructions could jeopardize safety and security.

US Bribery Allegations: What Adani Says

“This is not the first time we have faced such a problem,” Gautam Adani, speaking at the 51st Gem & Jewelery Awards, said on November 30. “As most of you read less than two weeks ago, we faced allegations from the United States about compliance with Adani Green Energy. Despite numerous reports, no one was from Adani. Allegedly violating the FCPA or any conspiracy to obstruct justice in the current world, when we work through the legal process. I would like to reaffirm our absolute commitment to compliance with world-class regulations … ”he said.

Immediately after the U.S. allegations made headlines, the consortium called the allegations baseless. “The allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission against the director of Adani Green are baseless and denied. As stated by the US Department of Justice itself, 'the charges in the warrant are indictment and the accused is presumed innocent unless there is evidence of guilt'. “All possible legal solutions will be sought,” the group said.

Adani Jugeshinder CEO Robbie Singh later said the allegations relate to an Adani Green contract that covers 10 percent of the energy company's business. Mr Singh said Adani Group had 11 public companies and no one had been charged and no one had been charged with any wrongdoing.
