There were four games in the bottom half of the Premier League table on Tuesday, with Ipswich Town hosting Crystal Palace and West Ham visiting Leicester City.
The Foxes were competing for the first time under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, the former Premier League top scorer with Manchester United, who was in charge at Old Trafford on an interim basis last month.
Ipswich started the night third bottom and on a run of two home draws, level on points with 17th-placed Leicester and Palace just above them.

Leicester v West Ham: Rudd wakes up
Van Nistelrooy's tenure at Leicester got off to a great start when Jamie Vardy scored the opener against West Ham after two minutes at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy pounced on Bilal El Kanous' low pass out of the visitors' defense on the left, into the box and into the far corner of the net, with the goal awarded after a review by the video assistant referee.
West Ham had 20 shots in the first half and had a goal disallowed after the break, but fell behind 2-0 when El Canus headed home Lukash Fabianski from Casey McAteer's pass.

Patson Daka smashed home Leicester's third in the 90th minute to ensure Niklas Fulkrug's response from Chrisencio Summerville's corner was inconsequential as Van Nistelrooy's reign began in style.
The win moved Leicester four points clear of the relegation zone, while the Hammers suffered their second successive defeat and third defeat in five games.
Ipswich v Palace: Mateta makes the difference
Palace took advantage of a poor display from their opponents to move within three points of the bottom three and leave the Tractor Boys in second place after 14 games.
Jean-Philippe Mateta's first away goal of the season settled the encounter, producing excellent footwork and a clinical finish for the winner in the 59th minute.

Striker Mateta should have doubled Palace's lead but was denied by an impressive save from Aro Muric, while Ipswich hit the post late on through Jacob Greaves' header.
“It wasn't a brilliant performance,” Eagles manager Oliver Glassner told BBC Match of the Day. “We expected a big fight and it was a big fight.
“It was an incredible goal, an incredible finish. We had two or three chances to take the game away from them and we didn't take them. In the end we had to be a bit lucky, but we deserved to win.

“When JP gets the ball in the box, he's such a good finisher and it's usually a goal. We are happy with our defensive performance; “We didn't allow them a chance from open play, only one from a set piece in the first half and one in the second half.”
Palace have now lost one of their last seven games in all competitions, while Ipswich are still looking for a second league win of the campaign.
