As a registered dietitian who frequently uses MyFitnessPal for my own tracking—and with my clients—I see how time constraints can challenge consistent logging. But MyFitnessPal's new voice recording feature simplifies the process, making it quick and easy for busy users.

For example, I've been using the feature to track my typical breakfast: two scrambled eggs, a slice of whole-wheat toast, chicken sausage and avocado, with coffee.

It takes about 15 seconds to say that to the app and evaluate it– A deadline that even the busiest people can manage!

What is the audio log feature?

Voice Log is a major feature and new to the MyFitnessPal app. Not a Premium Member? no problem! Try Premium for free for 30 days.

The feature makes it easy to record multiple meals, meals and serving sizes. Instead of manually typing and searching for items, all you need is a voice (and two taps).

If you are already trying it or if you are a Premium memberyou are ready Start using the voice recording feature! Just follow these steps.

  • Step 1: Open the MyFitnessPal app.
  • Step 2: In the app, tap the Add button (+) on the bottom navigation bar.
  • Step 3: Select the “Voice Log” option.
  • Step 4: If this is your first time using the feature, you must allow MyFitnessPal access to your microphone and allow MyFitnessPal access to the speech recognition functionality.
  • Step 5: When you see the gray arrow, start specifying the food (or foods!) you want to enter. The more details the better! Include product names, descriptions of serving sizes, and the meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack) you'd like to order. You know the app Listening When the arrow turns blue.
  • Step 6: When you're done defining your feed/people, tap the blue arrow.
  • Step 7: The best matching items will be automatically filled. From here, you can choose to delete an item, tap “Retry” or tap “Log” an item and/or an item in your diary.

Advantages of using audio logs for monitoring

The audio logging feature in MyFitnessPal offers several benefits for food tracking.

  • Estimating portion sizes is easyIt's hard to know how much food you've consumed in ounces, grams, or other units of measurement. Now, express your service using your hand. For example, “I ate chicken for lunch the size of my fist.” Or “I had a handful of blueberries for a snack. (See our handy guide to portion sizes below!)
  • It will save you timeA voice log replaces the need to type food into a search, making it quick and easy to track your meals and snacks. You can also record multiple meals at once by saying your meals out loud. Even better, you can register multiple meals at once! Come the end of the day, open your app, tap Voice Log from the log, and record your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Rate, revise if needed and subscribe!
  • It allows you to log in on the goMultitasking? no problem. This feature is great for making sure your feed is booked, even when you only have a few seconds to spare.

Frequently asked questions about logging into MyFitnessPal

What kind of entries can I make using my voice?

You can record food and drink items in the MyFitnessPal database (which is one of the largest). Weight, exercise, and custom meals and recipes cannot be registered via voice commands at this time. Water can only be booked as part of your breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack.

Do I have to use certain phrases to register items in my voice?

It works best when you describe what you ate (or drank), what the serving size was, and which food you ate (or drank). For example, “For breakfast I had a cup of plain Greek yogurt, a drizzle of honey, a handful of blueberries, and a small cup of coffee.”

Is the audio log feature available on all devices?

Voice Log is available on iOS and Android devices but may require updates for full compatibility on all models. Visit the app store to make sure you're using the most up-to-date version of the app.

Does Voice Log work offline?

No, the MyFitnesspal Voice Logging feature requires an internet connection to process voice commands.

Is the audio log available in all languages?

Currently, the voice logging feature is only available in English and its availability is limited to the US market.
