A senior executive at US healthcare group UnitedHealth Group was shot dead ahead of an investor event in central Manhattan on Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Brian Thompson, who has served as chief executive of the team's UnitedHealthcare division since 2021, was pronounced dead at the hospital after being shot outside New York Hilton Midtown.
A New York City police official said a 50-year-old man was killed in the area but would not confirm his identity until the family was notified. Thompson is 49 years old at the end of February 2024, according to UnitedHealth regulatory documents.
UnitedHealth Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
